As a journalist, I visited almost every part of Canada over the course of a couple of decades. I often came to Halifax to cover political conventions and government meetings, and I’ve ridden campaign buses around rural Nova Scotia as well. On at least one occasion, I remember coming to Cape Breton, specifically to Sidney, for a political story.
But unlike Central and Western Canada, and even Nunavut, I have never been here in Nova Scotia before on my own time. On this visit, I have a couple of speaking engagements in Halifax, but mostly I have been wandering around as a tourist.
Between the two appearances in Halifax, I had a four day gap, which seemed like enough time to get to Cape Breton Island. I can’t claim to have done anything but be a tourist doing the most touristy things, which in Cape Breton means driving the Cabot Trail, doing some hiking and picture-taking, and visiting the beautifully restored 18th century French fortress of Louisbourg.
So here are some of my holiday snaps.
Sydney. 9/10
Enjoy the trip. Wonderful pics. If you are still there, check the Celtic Colours website to see what musical acts are playing during the festival.
