Palouse Falls

Above is a picture of Palouse Falls. It is quite a spectacular scene. But not especially representative of the Palouse region, which is in the southeast of Washington state and the southwest of Idaho, north of the Snake River. (The origin of the name is in dispute: it could come from the French “pelouse”, meaning short grass, or from the name of the Palus tribe.

Today, it is a mostly agricultural region, where the sinuous lines created by the wheat farmers as they go about cultivating their fields create astonishingly beautiful patterns on the unusual rounded hills that dominate the area.

Below is a selection of photos I took on Sunday as my friend Ross and I drove around the backroads in our rented internal combustion car, Edward VIII. Tomorrow, we will be back in the Leaf EV as we return toward the Seattle area.

I hope you enjoy these photos.
