I was driving along the old highway between Banff and Lake Louise when I saw the familiar scene. Morant’s Curve, where many an iconic photo has been taken. The only thing missing was a train.
There were a few other people there. One guy noticed my Jets hat and we had a little chat about hockey. He was an Oilers fan.
But I didn’t think I was going to hang around all day hoping for a train. As I was heading back to my car, a young man was getting out of his. “There’s a train coming in a few minutes,” he said.
He explained to me that he had seen the train passing through Canmore and he knew he could drive faster than it could through the mountains.
We introduced ourselves. He said his name was Ben. He runs a company in Toronto that makes hyper-accurate model trains. Aurora Miniatures. Ben’s bio on the company website says he is known in the model train community as “Drunk Bee”, though it says the nickname has nothing to do with alcohol or bees. It doesn’t explain what it does have to do with.
Anyway, thanks Ben. The train showed up just when you said it would.
And now I've come across this, which is a much more rewarding link:
