This is harrowing to read. I felt your anxiety, the chill in your fingers, the constant mental calculations, as if I was at the steering wheel. Well-written, and extremely informative. So relieved that you managed to avoid a freezing walk, and made me contemplate what I might do in this situation. I think I'd be wondering if there isn't some sort of "reserve" battery power that I've heard Tesla can turn on remotely. The story, as I recall it, was Floridians fleeing one of the recent hurricanes could get extra battery mileage with some sort of update that allowed use of the reserve. That might just be a Tesla thing. Even with a dead car battery, I'm not sure I'd be tempted to leave the car and attempt to walk 20 km. Yikes, I hope this history doesn't repeat on your journey.
Reading this seems it is an uncomfortable and stressful ride but so much fun!
Might I go a little off green a bit and suggest the acquisition of an "electrical spare tire" :) A Honda 2200i generator in the boot! After 4 hours running & 4 litres of gas later would only give you 20-24 Kms.
We love the posts. Like a good novel. It must have drama. I drove across the Prairies in the early 70’s in 1954 Nash Metropolitan convertible with the similar circumstances. Cold feet and peering through a tiny hole scratched in the windshield.
Why oh why are you doing this to yourself? I had to put a jacket on to finish reading this one.
I am having so much fun. Truly.
Wow, that is nerve-wracking. Happy you made it through that challenge! May there be no more as harrowing!!! (but I do wonder abut the Rockies)

Oh man, that stretch was stressful enough with mild September weather. I'm glad you made it through ok.
