I am going to post a little bit about all this in the next week or so. Two and a half months is not as much as it may seem for a journey of this magnitude, given the challenges of doing this in an EV.
That’s a nice post Paul, filled with info and insight.
When I was in Salt Lake City a few years ago my crew and I dined near the Temple and had the opportunity to sample some of the microbrewery fare on the menu such as a beer called “Why Have Only One?” another labeled “Take Some Home for the Wives” and so one. Not surprisingly the Mormon establishment turned out not to have a sense of humour about that sort of thing and I believe they used some muscle to persuade the proprietors to wisecrack in a different direction.
I know a little of the Mormon history given the BC connection . But in day Salt Lake City ? - and having read the comments here - I going to throw in a word. Creepy. Ok a phrase - ‘Normalizing Creepy”
I always appreciate the insight you provide as well as the humour.
Wondering to what extent the time having to find working and fast charging stations, hopefully more reliably now, has delayed what would have been fine in a 2 months trip.
This recalled my parents 2 months trip in the 70's across Canada and return through the States as you are doing. They had said another month would have allowed them more time in some places they really would have liked to enjoy longer.
Dad was a bit of a hobbyist, cabochon jewelry maker and the stones he sought and picked up with his prospector's hammer as well as bought were simply beautiful. Among them were small and some sizable petrified wood from the badlands, either Oregon or North Dakota. I'm rambling, you've sent me down memory lane again!
In the last week, I have been travelling from Ottawa to Alabama, including through the Carolinas. Much of the time has been on the Interstate, but I try to drive on back roads in each state.
I recall about 10 Trump signs, spread throughout from New York to South Carolina, and two Biden signs, both in the vicinity of Scranton, Pa.
Unfortunately not. I’ll address this later on, but I am finding it hard to balance the sightseeing and the sheer need to crush the distances on this trip. Two and a half months is a long time—but not for this!

That’s hilarious!
Funniest one yet, Paul; 'laughed out loud. I can just see you in your best 'pince sans rire.'

Thanks again.

It’ll be interesting to see whether I see more as I move east. Honestly surprised how little I’ve seen.
Did you go to Provo to BYU?

It's a very big continent so that's understandable.
I probably should have done my research.
Ha ha
or at the other extreme Park City.
Great post, Paul. Fascinating and weird.
